LEISURE: Bournemouth Seafront to turn ‘sparkly pink’ in Twilight Walk

0

Hundreds of people are preparing to take part in the upcoming Twilight Walk in support of breast cancer patients and their loved ones.

The walk will take place on Friday 15th May which is raising money for breast cancer services at University Hospitals Dorset. Walkers taking part will be wearing pink and sparkles.

Along the Bournemouth Seafront, the Twilight walk will be showing support in the brightest way possible.

Each participant is setting their own fundraising target as ticket sales only cover the cost of the event.

The University Hospital Dorset has been able to purchase additional scanning equipment to detect breast cancer, thanks to community support. They also were able to provide specialised bras for patients who have undergone mastectomy surgery.

The community support also enables the NHS Charity to fund additional training for NHS staff on the Breast Cancer teams.

Public fundraising officer for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity, Aurelia Chliwna said:

“Every day, our NHS colleagues witness the reality of breast cancer on our community in scans, clinics and recovery rooms.”

“Every pound raised goes straight back into improving patient care and comfort.”

This years event is sponsored by local business Barchester Healthcare and Lester Aldridge solicitors.

Michelle Venn, home services advisor at Barchester Healthcare’s Parley Place care home said:

‘Walking and sponsoring this event gives our team members and our residents a chance to honour those who have been affected by breast cancer and do our bit to show that they are not alone.”

The participants can either walk 3, 5 or 10k from Bournemouth towards Southbourne. The routes are all accessible for wheels and most abilities.
