Bournemouth and Poole College has won Best New Apprenticeship Programme award at the National Apprenticeship and Training Awards.
The College won the award for its Level 2 Semi-Skilled Boat Builder Apprenticeship. The awards which are nationally recognised had over 350 nominees in total, according to the organiser. Bournemouth and Poole College beat off stiff competition in their category to secure the award. The apprenticeships focus on the experience needed to work in the marine sector.
The apprenticeships are delivered through the Sunseeker Skills Academy on the Poole campus and aim to give learners hands-on experience in boatbuilding.
Each year the Apprenticeship leads to 100 new employees in the Sunseekers workforce.
Antony Carr, Executive Director of Higher Education and Skills was understandably thrilled with the news of the award and said: “Together we are shaping the next generation of skilled professionals for the marine industry.”
