Gary Smith Welded Art set to unveil third art work to be auctioned for Macmillan Unit at Christchurch Hospital.

The artwork is set to remember working partner Fiona.

Gary’s partner Fiona died at the Macmillan Unit in 2013, just months after her cancer diagnosis.

“The care Fiona received was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble and I’ll be forever grateful for that. I feel honoured to be able to use my art to support the hospice’s work, it’s become a part of my life,” Gary said. ”

The latest work, New beginnings, is a three-piece sculpture featuring a host of butterflies covered in 24ct gold.

Gary Smith’s New Beginnings sculpture which is bathed in real gold and will go under the hammer for the charity next month (October).

It is being created for the Macmillan Caring Locally (MCL).

It will be auctioned at the annual fundraiser, the Flutterby Ball and via Facebook on Friday 4th October.

New Beginnings is currently on display at the Captain’s Club Hotel & Spa in Christchurch.

Lin Sharp, Fundraising & Communications Director at MCL agreed: “It’s difficult not to get emotional when you listen to Gary’s story and equally so when you see his work. I’m quite overwhelmed by New Beginnings and the whole of MCL is incredibly grateful for his continued support.”

“We can’t wait to see peoples’ reaction to New Beginnings and to welcome their bids for this unique and very beautiful piece.” Lin added.
