LOCAL NEWS: Local BCP Councillor dies suddenly

Earlier today, it was announced by BCP Council, that Councillor Colin Bungey, an Independent councillor representing Christchurch Commons had sadly died.

The news has come as a shock to those who knew him and BCP Council Leader paid tribute to him saying “This is incredibly sad news and I have sent my personal condolences to his wife Sue and his daughter Debbie via our colleagues in Christchurch who are in touch with them at this difficult time”.

One of those colleagues in Christchurch as current Christchurch Mayor Cllr. Lesley Dedman who said “We have a lost a wonderful, decent, honourable man and a great servant to Christchurch for many decades.

“With Colin it was first and last about public service, not politics. Our thoughts are with his family, especially his wife Sue who is the town’s deputy mayor”.

Cllr Bungey, served on the former Christchurch Borough Council for 36 years having been first elected in 1983 and served as Mayor. He was also made an Honorary Freeman of the Borough. He was elected to BCP Council last May and had been serving until his untimely death yesterday evening.

The cause of Cllr Bungey’s death is not yet known and will be announced in due course.

The council have asked that the privacy of Colin’s family is respected and they are given the space needed to grieve their loss at this difficult time. Further details on this story will be published as more news is announced.
