Yannis Young, aged 34, from Minet Avenue in London, has been jailed for 6 years for robbing a bookmakers in Ferndown in January.
It was around 10pm on Friday 31 January 2020 when Young and a second man, each wearing balaclavas and gloves and armed with a knife, approached two members of staff as they locked up the Betfred store in Victoria Road. After threatening the staff, they forced them back inside the store, where the second man took approximately £150 in cash before leaving, while Young demanded further money, then smashed a glass door to exit the shop a short time later.
Officers used a police dog to track Young to a bush outside a nearby block of flats, where they found him still in possession of a rucksack holding the balaclava and gloves. Unfortunately, police were unable to locate the second man, although efforts to identify him are ongoing.
Speaking about the incident, Detective Constable Jordan Hopkins, of Bournemouth CID, said: “This must have been a very frightening ordeal for the staff at the betting shop and I am pleased that thanks to the quick arrival of officers we were able to reack and locate one of the men responsible for this offence.
“Our efforts will continue to identify the second man involved in the robbery.”
