Road users are facing more misery on the roads as Wallisdown Road closes from Boundary Road to Fern Barrow Road for at least two weeks from Saturday 4 April 2020 for essential repair work.
The closure will be an unwelcome challenge to motorists but the road will continue to be accessible by pedestrians and cyclists, and will, once finished, provide a significantly improved route for all.
Leader of BCP Council, Vikki Slade, is keen for people to appreciate that the work is being undertaken at the best possible time, and that the work is essential: “The closure of Wallisdown Road is an important next step in delivering our wider vision for the area. We aim to complete these essential works as quickly as possible and have identified the Easter holidays as the most optimal time in order to minimise the impact on residents, local businesses, schools, the universities and commuters.”
“We appreciate this will lead to some short-term disruption. However, if we were to keep the carriageway even partially open this would lead to a significantly longer works programme. By utilising a more time-efficient method of construction, we will be able to reduce carbon emissions by 30%…We encourage people to allow extra time for their journeys and to pay close attention to signage. We also suggest walking, taking public transport or making the most of our Beryl Bikes cycling incentive.”
The council is working in partnership with Beryl Bikes to provide a 50% discount on all minute riding bundles for the first 1000 users from 1 April to 19 April. To take advantage of the offer, download the Beryl Bikes app and use the discount code WALLISDOWN50.
