Dorset’s disability charity, Diverse Abilities has raised more than £10,000 from donations from its Tree-cycling initiative.

This year’s Tree-cycling weekend had 67 volunteers taking part, covering 22 postcodes in 33 vans. In excess of 1,000  trees were collected across Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and East Dorset. All money that has been raised goes towards providing vital funds for the charity’s services.

Nicole Davey, who is a Diverse Abilities corporate and community manger said: “We are so thrilled with everyone’s commitment, some people volunteered all three days and put in a lot of hard work. It is a group project really as it simply could not run without the support of our volunteers and the general public who clearly make good use of it. We had some returning volunteers and lots of new ones too, so it was great to see and hear such positive feedback from everyone, especially as we start planning for it in the summer.”

Sponsors of the initiative include Maidmans Removals and Storage, Timbers Tree Care, Keyfort, and Waste Management Facilities who all provided their time and expertise to the operation.  Clare Miller, finance director of Waste Management Facilities Ltd, said: “WMF were thrilled to sponsor this year’s Christmas tree collection scheme, it’s a great initiative for an incredibly worthy cause. With the amazing organisation from the Diverse Abilities team and support from kind volunteers, this fantastic scheme is set to grow and grow!”

Other supporters of the initiative include Abacus vehicle hire, Barclays, Boundary Fencing Bournemouth, Castlemain Groundworks, C M Taylor, Complete Rubbish Clearance, Dorset Sports Cars and Subaru, Drewlec Electrical Services, JB Clearance and Landscaping, Moors Valley Country Park, Nationwide, Running Bear Garden Care, Stewarts Garden Centres, Strouden Joinery, The Watersports Academy, Town & Country House Clearance and Gardening Services, Trethowans, and TWK Scaffolding.
