AFC Bournemouth Chairman Jeff Mostyn has addressed a delegation at the United Nations General Assembly.

He travelled to New York to speak in his role as global ambassador for the UN-backed organisation Football for Peace and AFC Bournemouth.

Football for Peace was founded in 2013 and attempts to bring peace, tranquillity and stability to war-torn countries through the international language of football.

Jeff, who has been AFC Bournemouth’s Chairman for the last five years, revealed the news to more than 100 businesspeople at the Cherries’ Directors’ Dinner which was held at the club’s Vitality Stadium.

Around one year ago Jeff became an ambassador and joined the likes of the Duke of Cambridge and Brazil legend Ronaldinho, who had already pledged their support to the charity and its initiatives.

He said: “It is another huge step in the incredible story of our football club.

“It was incredible to speak in front of the General Assembly about the work that our Community Sports Trust does. With the backing of the UN, Football for Peace is making a difference. What we are also doing is reaching out to inner cities and towns where they suffer from depravation, getting youngsters off the streets and they are becoming ambassadors themselves.”

Research psychologist Dr Kevin Dutton was the keynote speaker at the Directors’ Dinner and spoke entertainingly on the subject of psychopaths.

Dr Dutton has worked with the likes of Ronnie Kray in Broadmoor psychiatric hospital and has also co-authored two books with ex-SAS hero Andy McNab.

During a Q&A session hosted by AFC Bournemouth Liaison Officer Jimmy Glass, Dr Dutton, revealed that not all psychopaths were necessarily violent criminals and explained that Special Forces soldiers, elite sportspeople and top businesspeople all exhibited psychopathic tendencies, but were able to channel them in the right way.

The evening was sponsored by specialist money transfer firm Global Reach, a new Official Partner of AFC Business from this season.

AFC Business was launched in 2009 and holds almost 1,800 members. It gives members access to events and exclusive offers at AFC Bournemouth.

AFC Business’ five main partners are Bournemouth Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Global Reach, Hill Osborne and Strategic Solutions.

The next AFC Business event is the November Breakfast which is being held at Westover Group in Christchurch on Wednesday, November 6.
