A free event for family businesses is being staged in Bournemouth this month.

Chartered accountants and business advisers PKF Francis Clark is organising the Family Business Connect event at the Marsham Court Hotel in Russell Cotes Road on Thursday, 17 October.

Keynote speaker will be the hotel’s Managing Director Rosie Radwell whose family has been involved in the hotel business in Bournemouth for more than 70 years.

The event is aimed at family businesses, with more than two generations and gives an opportunity to share experiences and for focused discussion around issues that are unique to them.

It follows on from a successful first family business event which was held in May in Blandford with guest speaker Anthony Woodhouse.

James Robinson, Managing Partner at PKF Francis Clark’s Poole office, said: “As a business we are passionate about supporting family businesses and have been a long standing specialist provider in the field of family business advice.

“In this region the majority of businesses are owned and managed by families, employing a significant proportion of the workforce. They are a fundamental part of the economy, and the communities where they operate.

“We know that family and business can be two very different and conflicting systems at work and that there is a whole level of complexity and issues to deal with that are not always present in a non-family enterprise.

“It is actually in understanding the day to day challenges that helps us to identify potential issues in order to start looking for the right solutions.

“Our events are a chance for family businesses of all types and sizes to share experiences and to hear from a range of guest speakers.”

Rosie Radwell will share the history of the Marsham Court Hotel and its association with their family. She will discuss the highlights and low points of a family business and transitioning between generations.

She will also offer some insights and anecdotes from the running of a busy hotel and the challenges and successes that Marsham Court has come through.

The event begins at 4.30pm and Rosie’s talk will be followed by a Family Business Connect session about protecting family assets, break-out groups, networking and a two-course dinner.

Any family members involved in running the business and those from the next generation are welcome to attend.
