There will be essential maintenance carried out on several local roads next week, as part of BCP Council’s Highway Maintenance Programme.
The £337,000 works come after the previous disruption for the recent A338 widening work.
Director of Growth and Infrastructure for BCP Council, Julian McLaughlin, said: “Our road condition surveys show that these roads need to be repaired to prevent further deterioration and pot holes from forming.
“Unfortunately there will be some disruption to road users but we have scheduled the work in such a way as to minimise the impact to the community.
“We would like to thank drivers in advance for their patience and understanding while these repairs are carried out.”
Cabinet Member for Transport and Infrastructure at BCP Council, Cllr Andy Hadley, added: “Every effort has been made to avoid the main summer holidays and peak rush hour working and to complete the works within one week.”
Wessex Way:
From Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 July, surface dressing works* will be carried out on the northbound and southbound section of the A338 Wessex way, between the Cooper Dean flyover and the Springbourne Interchange. This will cause lane closures and the slip roads leading to and from this part of the A338 Wessex Way will be closed. A signed temporary diversion will be in operation between 9:30am and 4pm daily.
The slip lanes for access to Kings Park and from Queen’s Park South Drive will also be closed off for the entire three-day period as part of the site access arrangements.
A temporary advisory 20mph speed limit will also be in operation for 24 hours between the surface dressing being laid and the sealant being applied, to keep all chippings in place. Delays to journeys are to be expected.
Additionally, sections of Wessex Way, from County Gates to to the Cooper Dean flyover, will be closed overnight on 15 and 16 July to enable additional highways maintenance works. Works will include grass cutting and litter picking.
From around 8:30pm on Monday 15 July until around 4am the following morning, there will be a full road closure (northbound and southbound) from County Gates to St Paul’s Roundabout. Lanes 1 and 2 northbound will also be closed from St Paul’s roundabout to Springbourne roundabout.
On Tuesday 16 July, lanes 1 and 2 northbound from Springbourne roundabout to Cooper Dean flyover will be closed. As well as, lanes 1 and 2 southbound from Cooper Dean flyover to St Paul’s roundabout. The closures will be in place from from approximately 8:30pm until 4am the following morning. Signed diversion routes will be in place.
Other roads:
Other roads requiring surface dressing include four roads close to Darby’s Corner in Poole. Phased road closures will be in place on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 July for Fontmell Road, Whitchurch Avenue, Badbury Close and Turnworth Close from 8.30am to 5pm each day. Pedestrian access and Steepleton Road will be unaffected. Access via the junction to Gravel Hill will also be maintained throughout the works.
Surface dressing work will also be carried out on the A337 Highcliffe Road, in both directions between the Somerford and Hobourne roundabouts from Thursday 11 and Friday 12 July. There will be lane closures in place between 9:30am and 4pm daily. A temporary advisory 20mph speed limit will also be in operation for 24 hours between the surface dressing being laid and the sealant being applied.
*Surface dressing works- a cost effective protective coating applied to the existing carriageway which prevents pot holes.
