Wimborne Town over 60s walking football team has a new shirt sponsor – Douch Family Funeral Directors.

The new team, based at the Wyatt Homes stadium complex off Leigh Road, entered the league structure in October and is now wearing The Magpies’ well-known black-and-white stripes.

The Douch family has strong links with sport in Wimborne and sponsors a number of clubs in the area.

Douch MD, Nick Douch said: “We are very much community-based, and walking football is growing quickly so we wanted to be a part of it. It is superb at getting people back into football and of course there is a great social side – and it retains a competitive edge.

“Wimborne Town is new to walking football but I understand the interest is huge. It is pleasure to sponsor them; we have sponsored sports teams and sports leagues for decades and understand that they are an important part of community fabric.”

David Mears, captain of the team, said: “Wimborne is a real community town. For the club to be able to extend its reach into walking football and to have a local company supporting us is a great marriage.

“In time, we plan to have more walking football teams representing Wimborne Town FC. Hopefully, competing in all the divisions (which start at age 50) for men and women.”
