LEISURE: Dorset Museum announce spring events lineup

spring at the museum of east dorset poster The Museum of East Dorset offers inspiration for little explorers this Easter holiday and springtime. 

If you’ve got children, you may want to take them along to the Little Explorers Easter Egg-stravaganzaTuesday 12th April 10am-1pm £3 per child. No need to book. Head to the museum for a fun-filled morning of creative crafts, activities and Springtime stories, Find the wooden eggs hidden around the Garden, and be sure to collect your reward at the end!

The Wimborne Railway Society will be running a brilliant exhibition on Tuesday 19th April and Wednesday 20th April. Visitors should expect to find fun and interactive activities for all of the family, anyone from ages 3 to 93 can get involved. There will be puzzles to be solved, with the complexity being suited to the match the maturity of the participant. It’ll be a great opportunity to take control of driving the trains. 

If you’re a garden enthusiast, you might want to book yourself in for a garden tour or Tearoom visit.

If you’re the artistic type, you might be interested in learning Modern Calligraphy. This beginner class takes place on Thursday 5th may 6pm-8pm, as well as learning the art of hand-lettering using traditional pen and ink.  You can also have a kit to take home and a glass of bubbles – all of this is included for a rate of £45.

Have you ever made a Corked Bottle Terrarium? On Thursday 7th April from 7pm-9pm you have the opportunity to make your own self-watering eco-system in a jar. For £48.50 you can get involved in the workshop and you will be provided with all of the plants, materials and a glass of bubbles.  

For those interested in the history of textiles, you may want to clear your schedule for Thursday 28th April at 7pm. Dorset Button Maker and Textile Artist Anna Mcdowell will give a fascinating talk which will follow the history of the local cottage industry that was started by Abraham case in the 1600s and its demise 200 years later. Anna will go into detail about how to help keep the craft thriving and will answer questions at the end. Booking is essential at a ticket rate of £7 per person.
