LATEST: Coronavirus in BCP: What we know so far

Public Health England reveal that 15 people have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the BCP area. 

In a statement, released on 9 March 2020, Public Health Dorset has confirmed that three residents from the area have been tested positive for Coronavirus, since then 12 more people have been diagnosed in the area. 

Professor Debra Lapthorne Centre Director, Public Health England South West said: “One acquired the virus through a case outside of the county and the other two following overseas travel.”

Currently 11,658 people in the UK have been tested positive for Coronavirus, 453 of which are in the South West.

  • 31 April 10:00: NHS confirmed that between 18 March and 31 March, NHS 111 has procesed 243,543 calls about potential COVID-19 symptoms, and 1,496,651 COVID-19 online assessments have been filled out. In Dorset, there have been just 1,843 calls to 999 or 111 about COVID-19 symptoms and 17,135 online assessments have been completed. 
  • 26 March 11:30: Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner will stay on another year as elections have been postponed until May 2021.
  • 23 March 21:00: Prime Minister Boris Johnson announces lock-down measures to take place for at least 3 weeks.
  • 23 March 16:00: So far 12 people in the BCP area have been positive for Coronavirus, and one 72-year-old woman has died at Dorchester Hospital from COVID-19.
  • 23 March 10:00: Chain restaurants McDonalds, Nando’s, and Subway have all announced full closure of their stores, other restaurants such as KFC, Burger King and Pizza Hut are still open for take away and deliveries only.
  • 20 March 17:00: Following Boris Johnson’s press conference yesterday, all bars, clubs, gyms and restaurants in the UK are set to close from tonight.

  • 16 March 17:00: PM Boris Johnson advises against any but essential travel and to avoid restaurants, pubs and theatres.
  • 16 March 09.00: a fifth person in BCP area is tested positive for COVID-19 
  • 10 March 11:15: Employee at Preston Redman in Bournemouth tested positive for Coronavirus

A worker at Preston Redman Solicitors in Bournemouth has tested positive for Coronavirus. The law firm is currently working with BCP council and PHE.

  • 10 March 11:12pm: Sam Crowe, Director Of Public Health for Dorset and BCP Councils gives a statement about Coronavirus in Dorset.

  • 9 March 15:12pm: Clarks staff member working in Poole has been tested positive for Coronavirus. 

A Clarks staff member working at the Dolphin Shopping Centre in Poole has been confirmed to have contracted Coronavirus. The shopping centre is temporarily closed whilst they perform a deep clean of the building. 

  • 9 March 14:15: Student at Bournemouth University is confirmed to have Coronavirus. 

A Bournemouth University student has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently self isolating. The student said that he contracted the virus from someone outside of the University. 

The University will remain open, as Public Health England has advised staff and students that the risk remains low. 

  • 8 March 16:46: Coronavirus case linked to ‘The Gym’ in Poole. 

One of the latest cases of Coronavirus has been confirmed by an email from The Gym, which operates out of The Nuffield Estate in Poole.

In the email, The Gym says that it will close temporarily in order to undertake deep cleaning, saying that the welfare of members is its top priority.
