BCP council have bought a 70-bed care home in Boscombe to make care home living more affordable.

The average cost of a residential care home in the UK, in 2017/18, was £32,344 a year. This rose to over £44,512 a year when nursing care was included according to not-for-profit company Paying for Care.

The Fairways care home in Owls Road, Boscombe is now operated by Tricuro. The care company have been commissioned to run the service along side their other assisted living facilities. Despite the change of owner, the current residents will still receive care as normal. The staff who wished to remain at the care home have transferred employment to the new company.

Councillor Vikki Slade, Council Leader, BCP Council, said: “By owning our own care homes, we are able to secure a large number of affordable bed places for local people, particularly those with dementia.”

Alison Waller, Managing Director of Tricuro said that they are looking forward to delivering “high quality care” to people who rely on funding from the council or who wish to purchase care from the care service privately.

The care home has been operated by the previous owner, MD Care (UK) Ltd, who purchased the business though Christie & Co in 2011. The property was extended during their ownership to accommodate another 30 residents and was fully refurbished.
