Firefighters warn of dangers after mud rescue

0

Following an incident in Chewton Bunny, where firefighters were called to rescue a family who were stuck in mud, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued some official advice.

If you should become stuck in mud:

  • Stay Calm
  • Lie down, spread your arms and legs wide apart and shout for help
  • Get someone to call 999
  • Do not stand upright or attempt any movement as this makes you sink even more quickly
  • If you see someone stuck in the mud, always go for help – do not go into the mud yourself

Firefighters and Coastguard personnel were able to rescue the family using inflatable walkways, mud lances, and by digging them out. The family had be trying to help their dog, who had become trapped in the mud.

Stay safe! Be mindful of the terrain and weather conditions when you go out for a walk. Keep dogs on a lead near mud and ice.
