A 50mph speed limit is now in place on Spur Road, on the northbound and southbound carriageway between Cooper Dean and north of Blackwater.
This comes ahead of a planned temporary limit of 40mph on the A338, which is set to come into place on Sunday night at 8pm. However, it’s unclear at the moment whether these two things are related. The temporary limit will be in effect for 18 months, to allow for major maintenance and improvement works.
It was announced earlier this year that certain motorway speed limits across the UK would be reduced to 50mph, in a bid to tackle air pollution.
There are no large signs warning that there has been a change to the limit, as I would expect, and that there ought to be. Just the new 50mph signs.

Motorists were left perplexed.
