REVIEW: Hairspray

The summer season got off to a spectacular start last night as 1962 Baltimore arrived in Bournemouth with the sensational hit musical comedy Hairspray which left a packed Pavilion in a total party mood.

This current production started its U.K. tour in August 2017 and despite a few modern tweaks the show still retains it original wide family appeal it first had back in 1988 with the release of the film by the same name along with its cracking musical score.

As you would expect the choreography and costumes were superb, I was impressed with how the production teams had managed to keep the balance of producing a colourful fun loving musical without losing the more complex issues which underline the whole story. This really is a musical which has it all, the laughter, the romance and tears and that teens realisation that they want to change the world, you can argue that achieved exactly that.

This is a show to take the whole family along for a great afternoons/evening’s entertainment, Hairspray is performing at the Pavilion theatre Bournemouth from Monday 30 July through to Saturday 4 August with evening performances each day and two matinee performances on Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00 pm
