Police investigating a road traffic collision in Poole, in which a pregnant woman was hospitalised, have arrested a teenage boy.
On Monday 26 January 2026, around 3.50pm, a collision with an e-bike and a pregnant woman occurred. The incident happened in Herbert Avenue, near to the junction with Manor avenue.
The pregnant pedestrian, aged in her 30s, attended hospital for treatment. Her baby, who has since been born, remains in hospital in a serious condition.
It was reported that the rider of the e-bike failed to stop at the scene after the incident occurred, leaving the pregnant woman in distress.
Police Sergeant Dan Yates, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Our investigation is continuing and we have now made an arrest as part of our enquiries.” A 13-year-old boy from Poole has been arrested on suspicion of a driving offence and remains in police custody.
The collision comes amid increasing concern amongst the public for the safety of pedestrians and other road users. Electric scooters and electric bikes can often reach speeds of 30mph+ and yet do not currently require a licence to be ridden, although the law does not allow for private e-scooters to be ridden on public roads or footpaths. Only licensed e-scooters Beryl are allowed on BCP roads.
The law around e-bikes is not so clear and they are currently treated much the same as pedal bikes but there have been calls in parliament for an urgent review of the law surrounding e-scooters and bikes amid other high profile accidents across the country.
Police Sergeant Dan Yates thanked the public for their assistance and said: “We are still appealing for anyone with information in relation to this incident, who has not already spoken to police, to please get in touch.”
