A free event for those with low vision and sight loss is being held at the Eye Unit at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital next month.

A wide range of local and national low vision charities will be exhibiting on the 7th of September and staff from the unit will be on hand to answer questions and provide information all between the hours of 11am to 3pm.

Mrs Non Matthews, consultant ophthalmologist, will be the keynote speaker at the event. She said: “Our annual event is a great place for those with low vision and sight loss to find out what services, support and advice is available to them and their families.

“Having these charities which provide vital services in one place makes finding out what support is available easier and we hope that anyone who experiences low vision and sight loss will find it useful.”

Refreshments will be available to buy on the day.  Cream teas will be served from 1pm in the Eye Unit, raising money for new equipment for the new Macular Suite.

Alterations to the Outpatient Department are soon to commence on a purpose built area, for the diagnosis and treatment of macular disease. New equipment, to the value of £150,000 will be required and The Friends of the Bournemouth Eye Unit have committed to making a significant contribution, otherwise any other financial help towards the ambitious target are said to be gratefully received.
