Bournemouth University (BU) has announced plans for a new £38m STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) facility.

The state-of-the-art building is to be built alongside the new Poole Gateway Building on the Talbot Campus if it is approved by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP).

Vice Chancellor, Professor John Vinney said: “Our aspiration is to be recognised world-wide as a leading university for inspiring learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society.

“To ensure we continue to attract high calibre staff and students and deliver world class research for years to come, BU needs to invest in new facilities to remain competitive.

“This is a major investment in STEM and will support the continued transformation of our estate whilst enabling modest staff and student growth at Talbot Campus.”

These plans are part of BU’s wider desire to invest £350m in its academic facilities by 2025, £200m of which has already been committed to development.

Ahead of submitting its plans to BCP Council, BU has launched a four-week consultation period, where the public is invited to engage with the plans.

A public exhibition is to be held on June 12 at Talbot Campus for those interested in finding out more details about the plans.
