A brave woman who came forward after being violently abused by her ex-partner, has given evidence which has resulted in him being jailed.
An investigation was launched by Police following a report that Junior Turaga, aged 21, placed his hands around the neck of the woman.
The woman claimed that Turaga had a history of controlling behaviour and was involved in an altercation with him in October 2024, where he placed his hands around her neck, tightening his grip until she struggled to breathe. The defendant displayed other controlling behaviour including checking her phone, as well as making threats to harm himself, her family, or her car if she didn’t comply with certain requests.
Turaga was later arrested and on Tuesday 3 February 2026 at Bournemouth Crown Court, he admitted offences of non-fatal strangulation and controlling and coercive behaviour. He was sentenced to three years in prison and a restraining order was placed on him for seven years, preventing him from contacting the defendant.
Police Constable Harry Chaplin said: “I hope the courage she has shown shows a message to victims of domestic abuse that they will be supported and we will do all we can to ensure perpetrators face justice.”
