LEISURE: Start 2026 with a wildlife walking challenge

0

The start of a new year means that many are looking to complete their new years resolutions and better themselves in 2026.

The Bird and Recreation Initiative (BARI) is a group that protects important bird species and their habitats from Studland across to Sandbanks. The group is running a winter walking challenge for those looking to better their fitness this year, beat those January blues or simply to connect with nature.

BARI are encouraging locals to attempt to walk every day throughout January, this can be solo-walking, with friends and family or even with a canine friend.

BARI have also set up group walks every Saturday throughout January in different locations around Dorset with the first of four meetings on January 10th.

This week, the group plans to meet at Cuilford Crescent bus stop opposite Knowlton Road at 10am for their first group walk and will trek 6.5 miles with a 20 minute break where you can take in the views or have a snack.
