BCP Residents are bracing themselves after the Met Office warnings of high winds and ice between the 7th and 8th of January

While the UK is already being affected by snow and strong winds in 2026, Dorset is without the joys that come with the cold weather, so far there is not much opportunity for snowmen or snowball fights on the south coast however residents have been warned to stay aware of the dangers of the weather during storm Goretti.

Strong gusts of winds are expected to reach 50-60mph and up to 70mph around exposed headlands and coasts. Winds are expected between 15:00 and 23:59 on January 8th. People are recommended to be well prepared in the case of any power cuts as well as remaining vigilant for dangers on the roads.

There is a small chance of damage to buildings such as tiles blown from roofs, the risk of travel cancellations and a small risk to life from flying debris.

Ice is  also expected to cover the roads in the coming days with the Met Office urging people to stay safe in the early hours of the day.

The Met Office has suggested that people should remain safe, check if roads are safe to drive on, amend plans if necessary and leave home earlier so there is no risk of rushing and sliding on the roads.

The Met Office have also told people to keep up to date with any further weather warnings as it can change quickly and unexpectedly.
