HEALTH: Game-changing anti-cholesterol drug could soon be offered by NHS

The NHS could soon offer a new anti-cholesterol drug to people across England and Wales potentially saving 30,000 lives if Whitehall officials agree a deal.

The “anti-cholesterol” drug called Inclisiran is made by the company Novartis and is usually sold for around £2,000, however the pharmaceutical company has reportedly agreed to a discount with the NHS. This agreement could have a profound effect on many across Britain who suffer with medical issues regarding cholesterol.

Inclisiran is reportedly able to reduce bad fat in the blood of patients when other drugs have not done enough, it is being recommended for those who have already suffered a stroke or heart attack and are not responding to cholesterol-lowering treatments.

Although not yet available, it’s hoped to be available later this year if plans go ahead.
