LOCAL NEWS: Appeal for information after suspicious incident involving a child

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward after a child was led away from the Cygnet play area in Poole Park by a stranger on the morning of Friday 14 August 2020. 

The incident occurred at around 11.45am. A woman was pushing her young nephew on the swings of Poole Park’s Cygnet play area with her 3 year-old daughter standing next to her. On realising her daughter had left her side, the woman witnessed her being led towards the exit by another woman who was not known to her. She challenged the woman, who claimed she thought the girl was lost. 

The mother reported to police that the woman was accompanied by three men, all of whom left the park immediately. The woman is described as having long, wavy brown hair and tanned skin, and was wearing bright orange shorts with a matching top. She is believed to speak with an Eastern European accent The men had dark brown hair, stubby beards, and all are thought to be in their 30s. 

Inspector Jess Pearcey, of Poole police, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the identities of those involved in this incident so we can take their accounts and establish exactly what happened.

“While we cannot second guess the intentions of the group involved and there is nothing at this stage to confirm any sinister motive, we understand this must have been a concerning incident for the mother of the young girl and we are carrying out a full investigation into this matter. 

“I would urge anyone who was in the area and witnessed this incident or who has any information that can assist our investigation to please contact us.

“I would also appeal to the group involved to come forward so we can get their accounts of the incident.”
