BUSINESS: Business boost for Christchurch with new trading hub

0

Penton Motor Group is breathing new life into a disused area of commercial land in Christchurch with the development of a trading hub.

When completed, the disused former Boyland Joinery site in Stony Lane, Christchurch, will be known as Penton Business Park, and should offer employment opportunities for up to 30 people in its 20,300 square feet of space. Leading national chains have already taken some of the space, leaving 12,000 square feet free for other businesses.

The construction of the four units being developed on the land is underway, with John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel) designing and manufacturing the steel frames, decking, cladding, glazing and doors of the units.

Driving in a new direction

It’s an entirely new direction for Penton Group, a family-run business that has been expanding for the last 8 years with 4 new showrooms for its franchised motor business and 3 investment buildings. It is the first time they will have created a ground-up commercial property for use by other businesses. Managing director Robert Wilson said: “This new development demonstrates our confidence in the commercial property sector and the Christchurch area.

“With the possible creation of 30 jobs, it represents a significant boost for the local economy and regeneration of a disused brownfield site. It is an exciting circa £2.5m investment for our business, on which we can use our expertise and experience in showrooms and service centre development to expand further into the commercial property market.

Jan Dibden, our financial director, and his team have successfully headed up this project and we have been delighted to work with REIDsteel, a local firm.

“We all look forward to seeing this development progress as soon as conditions allow.”

Simon Boyd, managing director of REIDsteel, which has been trading for over 100 years and has been involved in the development of bridges, hospitals, churches, schools and aircraft hangers all over the world, is equally excited to be working on the new site:

Managing Director of REIDsteel Simon Boyd, said: “We work across the UK, Europe and the world so it is great to work on a project a little closer to home.

“We have been able to provide our design, fabrication and manufacturing expertise for the entire building envelope, including its cladding, glazing and decking requirements.

“We are delighted to support the Penton Motor Group to create this high-quality development which will bring significant jobs and economic benefits for the area.”
