The plays of William Shakespeare are a right of passage for school students everywhere and now pupils studying ‘Macbeth’ at Bournemouth Collegiate School will find their lessons brightened with a series of monologues performed by actor Ralph Ineson.
Previously a drama teacher himself, Ralph Ineson is now probably best known for his recurring roles in the Harry Potter series and Game of Thrones, but now he is returning to his teaching roots with a video series to be used in virtual lesson plans, starting with one of the most famous soliloquies from Macbeth, ‘Tomorrow, tomorrow, and tomorrow’.
From this speech, the students can move on to create their own versions of the monologue ‘If it were done when ’tis done, ’twere well it were done quickly,’ at the end of Act 1, either as an audio file or as a short film, inspired by Ralph’s work.
Maria Coulter, Head of BCS, said: “We hope to invite Ralph back to critique some of their monologues, quite a bit of pressure to be placed under but an exciting opportunity for the students! We are also looking to combine a professional actor with the work of 14 year-old’s to produce Macbeth in the future as we return to some normality. We would love to see how we can incorporate this work into the Shakespeare School Festival.”
The ‘Scottish Play’ is something with which Ralph Ineson will be especially familiar right now, as he is set to appear in a Hollywood version of Macbeth alongside Denzel Washington, due to be released next year.
