LiveWell Dorset, a service provided by Public Health Dorset, will be carrying out free health checks at The Dolphin Centre.

The health checks, which take place today  (Wednesday 19 February) from 10am – 3pm in the Eco Hub, will allow the team to check blood pressures, measure lung age and calculate BMIs.

They will also be on hand to discuss the results of the ‘MOT’ and suggest small lifestyle changes that people can make to improve their health.

LiveWell Dorset have recently signed up and offered useful advice and tips to 30,000 people across Dorset with the aim of preventing problems before they happen..

Dave, a 59-year-old engineer from Poole, recently had a Health MOT with LiveWell Dorset at work. He was shocked to find out that he had a lung age of 79 years old, and recognised it was time to make changes to his lifestyle. After discussing the options with LiveWell Dorset, he decided on an 8-week fitness programme taking place at AFC Bournemouth with their Community Sports Trust.

Commenting on the Health MOT, he said: “I was a bit taken aback with the results of the health check, but throughout the programme, everyone has been supportive of one another – no judgement or embarrassment – just lots of fun and encouragement! I just want to thank AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust and LiveWell Dorset for all their help and support.”

Dave was happy to have taken the health checks and made changes as a result

Matt Fisher, Communications & Marketing Manager at LiveWell Dorset, said: “Dave’s story is a great example of how a simple Health MOT can help you get fitter, healthier and add years to your life. We would encourage anyone to come along to get their Health MOT and learn about changes that could work for them. Come and take your next step to LiveWell!”

John Grinnell, Dolphin Shopping Centre manager, said: “It’s great to be hosting LiveWell Dorset at the Eco Hub, and we would encourage any of our customers to drop in and find out more about improving their health.”

Public Health Dorset is also encouraging eligible residents of Dorset to attend their NHS Health Check throughout February. A health check is a free general check of our overall health. It can tell you whether you’re at higher risk of getting certain health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease or stroke.
