A pub in the New Forest is being highly recommended by its long-standing MP after winning a major award.

The London Tavern in Poulner, Ringwood was taken over by Landlord Phil Hoyle last year. It recently won the Enterprise Inns Excellence Award and has now become on of the most popular pubs in the area.

Former MP of the New Forest Desmond Swayne, who is no longer a member of parliament now it has been dissolved for the general election, visited the pub to enjoy a meal and a pint.

He said: “If you are passing through Ringwood you should call in for a drink or a spot of dinner. It’s a great place.”

The historic tavern, which was established in the 1860s, has regular live music, bingo, quizzes and other events. They also have roaring fire for the winter nights and a large beer garden for the summer days and evenings.

Landlord Phil who runs it with fiancé Sarah said: “We run what I consider a proper, old fashioned pub; great beer, ciders, wines and spirits, a superb atmosphere and fantastic food.

“Winning the EI excellence award was a complete surprise and it has brought many through the door, including Sir Desmond.

When we took over I never dreamed I’d have to limit entrance at 8.30 in the morning – but that happened twice when the Rugby World Cup was on.”

Phil also revealed the pub will also be doing something very special over Christmas.
