A proposed plan for a brand new primary school and new houses is to go on show at Hillbourne School in Poole at two drop-in information events.

A planning application is due to be submitted for the proposed plans for a new school building and pre school at the end of September 2019. The planning application for the housing element will be submitted later this year.

Local residents, staff and parents can attend drop-in events which will show details of the exciting plans for the school, which is to be built in the centre of the existing site on Kitchener Crescent. The new homes will be either side.

“The Community in this part of Poole deserve a new school”

Councillor Sandra Moore, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “I hope as many people as possible will find the time to come along and see for themselves what we’re hoping to create.

“The community in this part of Poole deserves a new school fit for the future and I am delighted to see this scheme progressing well.

“This approach is considered to be the best value for money option, whilst being least disruptive to the school which can continue to operate at its two current locations whilst work progresses.”

At the drop in sessions, BCP Council’s project team, architects and housing officers will be on hand to answer questions. People will also have the opportunity to put forward any comments and suggestions.

The proposed school will feature a traditional steel construction and the houses will be constructed in a ‘phased approach’ with the exact number of houses not yet confirmed as it is subject to planning permission.

‘Holisitic approach’ means houses as well as a new school

Councillor Kieron Wilson, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “By taking a holistic approach to the site and providing a brand new housing development of around 100 homes, we are able to deliver not only the school in a cost effective way, but also provide much needed homes for the local community. I am pleased to support this fantastic project.”

The site will also accommodate a pre-school which will be attached to the new school building and there are plans to cater for the additional needs of young people in the local area from the same site too.

Some of the plans for the school include a purpose- built sports pitch and a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).

The next drop in event will take place at Hillbourne School in Kitchener Crescent on Thursday 19 September 6pm-8pm.
