TRANSPORT & TRAVEL: Yellow warning for South West England

There is a yellow weather warning in place today across the South west for heavy showers and thunderstorms.

The warning is in place between 10am and 8pm this evening for slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms that could cause travel disruption in places. According to the Met Office Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch will see the worst of the weather between 11am  and 5pm this evening. 

The Met Office have advised that we could see a lot of rainfall today: “heavy rain will turn more showery later this morning, with a risk of thunderstorms developing, which may be slow-moving in some places. Heavy showers and thunderstorms clearing away southwards early evening. 15-20 mm of rain could fall within an hour and 30-40 mm within 3-4 hours in a few places. Lightning and hail are also possible.”

It is possible that driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and possibly hail so give yourself extra time to make your journey and be sure to pick up your umbrella as you walk out the door.
