LEISURE: Blast off at Castlepoint Library this summer

0

The annual Summer Reading Challenge will return to Castlepoint Library this month with a theme of Space Chase.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. In honour of this, this summer children can take part in the ‘space chase’ reading challenge at Castlepoint Library.

The 2019 challenge produced by The Reading Agency will run from Saturday 13th July to Saturday 14th September across all libraries in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

Castlepoint Library will be hosting a special launch event on Tuesday 16th July at 4pm.

At this event there will be plenty of free family activities to get stuck in to, including making alien slime, alien and rocket pencil toppers and a moon trail.

To join the challenge and become a space cadet, children will be asked to read six books of their choice from their local library. As they do so, they will be able to solve clues and collect stickers to complete their mission.

Once all six books have been completed, all cadets will receive their own Space Chase certificate and medal.

There will also be a mini challenge running for children under three years old.

The ‘Space Chase’ Summer Reading Challenge will be open to all children, free of charge.
