BOSCOMBE EAST & POKESDOWN: Andy Jones – Conservative

2

My name is Andy Jones and I’m standing for re-election as a Conservative Councillor in the Boscombe East & Pokesdown Ward. I have been a Councillor for the past 4 years and it has been a real privilege to work alongside so many people in the local community who share my drive and determination to improve the area in which they live and work wherever possible.

One of my key objectives since 2015 has been to lead on the local community campaign for the installation of lifts at Pokesdown Station. Following a number of structural surveys that were undertaken in February, the ‘build programme’ will commence over the summer. I am keen to see other much needed improvements to the look and feel of the station and am currently in discussions with SWR and our MP, Tobias Ellwood to see how that can be made a priority.

The new Council of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) will provide greater opportunities to attract a much high level of inward investment from central government. BCP will give us the opportunity to pool resources and build on key strengths, which I believe will benefit us locally as well as across the new Council area.

In addition to the above, the following will be my priorities if I am re-elected on 2nd May:-

1) A cleaner and safe area. I will continue to work with the police and council officers to ensure that the ward remains safe, clean and attractive place to live and work.

2) Assisting local businesses to grow and flourish. Small businesses are at the heart of our area and local economy. I will continue to work with local traders to address any issues or concerns that they have.

3) Listening and Acting. I will continue to listen to local residents, act when appropriate and represent their views within the broader Council whilst being accessible and accountable.

4) Continue to fight inappropriate development. I will remain vigilant and continue to actively oppose inappropriate developments and anything else that threatens local quality of life. I will work hard to make sure that the policies contained within the Boscombe & Pokesdown Neighbourhood Plan are adhered to.

  1. Mr R Jenkins - Boscombe on

I would like to ask Mr Jones that if he is elected will he be protecting our area from any future development of the Football Ground?
Don’t get me wrong, I am a supporter of AFCB but if as rumored the ground is moved to the current site of the athletics stadium that could bring it into conflict with urban housing, particularly from noise and light pollution, can I ask Mr Jones if he will be fighting for the residents or the football club on this matter?

    • Dear Mr Jenkins. Thank you for your comment. Like you I am an AFCB fan but the views and opinions of residents and the impact that any development would have on them would come first. That has always been my philosophy as a councillor and will be moving forward if I’m fortunate enough to be elected for a second time. Andy.
