Suicide prevention: “Talking is the best thing you can do”

0

September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day and Charlie, director of Bournemouth Samaritans, believes it’s vital that people know that when they’re struggling, talking to someone is the best thing they can do:

“If a person is thinking of taking their life, we hope that they will call Samaritans and talk to us. We do not judge, but by listening and speaking when appropriate, we strive to help our callers move to a place where further support can be obtained.”

Though suicide rates have steadily decreased since 1981, there were still 5,821 suicides registered in the UK in 2017.

It’s #wspd #wspd18 and it’s time to start the conversation about #mentalhealth . The first and most important thing you can do is talk to someone. Reach out. Or be that person who is not afraid to ask your mate “Are you really ok?” It could save a life. The @samaritanscharity are there 24/7 to offer emotional support on freephone 116 123. If you have suicidal thoughts or actions go to A&E (safely) or call 999 and ask for the blue light services. #Repost @mindinmidherts_ ・・・ Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. We’ll be posting information about Suicide and Prevention, please share the message. Let’s start conversations. We’d love to hear what you are doing to raise awareness (be sure to tag us in!)💙
