Help turn Bournemouth Seafront Pink

A new piece of equipment that will help diagnose and treat cancer of the womb is the driving force behind Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s Twilight Walk for Women on 20 May at 8pm at Bournemouth Seafront.

Women, men and children and being asked to sign up to the 1km, 5km or 10km routes along Bournemouth Seafront to help fund treatment with the new Myosure equipment. The Myosure equipment will benefit women undergoing investigations into post-menopausal bleeding which can be an early sign of cancer of the womb.

The Trust already has the diagnosis equipment but not the facilities to deliver treatments for polyps and growths found when ladies have investigations.

Currently, the majority of ladies who are found to have polyps are admitted as in-patients and have a general anaesthetic to have the growths or polyps removed. This means they aren’t allowed to eat anything before the procedure, are in hospital for most of the day and need time to recover from the affects of the general anaesthetic.

The Myosure device will enable ladies to get back to their normal day-to-day lives much quicker by allowing a polyp to be removed safely, quickly, with minimal pain and without the need for a general anaesthetic.

Debbie Anderson, Head of Fundraising for Bournemouth Hospital Charity, said: “We’ve had fantastic support at our past Twilight events which have helped fund the new Jigsaw Building and lots of the medical equipment inside, and we are hoping for the same support this year.

“Last year’s Twilight walkers raised over £22,000 while enjoying a stroll along the seafront and we’re asking everyone who took part last year to join us again and bring a friend with them. What better way to spend an evening than taking in the scenery of our beautiful beaches while catching up with a friend in the knowledge that you are raising funds for a great cause.”

Registration forms can be picked up from the Charity Office situated in the main entrance at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital or you can register online at http://www.bournemouthhospitalcharity.org.uk/  Registration costs £15 per adult (16 and over), children age 5-15 cost £7.50 and under 5’s are free. Fancy dress is optional.
