LOCAL NEWS: Cyclist dies after ‘medical episode’ near Avon Causeway Hotel

Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident that occurred near the Avon Causeway Hotel on Sunday 24 May 2020, after the man involved passed away. 

The victim – a male cyclist in his 50s from Bournemouth – is believed to have suffered a medical episode while travelling on the eastbound carriageway of the Avon Causeway at around 2.50pm on Sunday 24 May 2020. 

Police officers and the ambulance service rushed to the scene and the man was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for treatment. Sadly, he passed away on Monday 1 June 2020. 

Officers are now investigating the circumstances around the incident and are asking anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Police Constable Andy Kennedy of the traffic unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly died and we owe it to them to carry out a detailed investigation to the establish the full circumstance of this incident.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident and has not already spoken to police, or who was driving in the area at the time and captured anything relevant on dashcam, to please contact us.”
