Poole shopping centre producing own honey for charity

The Dolphin Shopping Centre in Poole is now selling jars of honey produced from its very own rooftop garden beehives.

Jars of Rooftop Honey can be bought from the centre’s management, at £5 each, with all proceeds going towards local charity, Chestnut Nursery. The charity provides meaningful work in a supportive environment, for adults with severe and enduring mental illness.

The shopping centre’s rooftop garden was created in 2015, to help tackle local environmental issues, while utilising unused space in an innovative way. It houses thousands of bees in two hives. So far this year, 57 jars of honey have been produced, with another 50 set to be ready over the coming weeks.

As well as producing honey, the project has helped with the pollination of local parks and surrounding gardens.
